I’m so excited about all of the information I just found, I don’t know where to start.
First of all I just found out about a non-profit organization called Reverb (nothing too new, started in 2004) that “seeks to raise awareness and support for the environment through building upon the powerful connection between musicians and their fans.” They educate the fans and also green the tours of the artists!
The whole idea for Reverb was born out of the success of Bonnie Raitt’s Green Highway program, which has a plethora of info on many eco-topics, such as wind energy, solar energy, and forests. It also tells us, “On Bonnie’s 2005 tour, all buses and trucks are running on biodiesel and 30 of the 39 shows will be offset 100% by wind energy to make this tour as climate neutral as possible. At each of the theaters you’ll discover the “Green Highway” display along with environmental organizations and green partners that are making an impact to improve our collective future.”
Bonnie Raitt has been a long time environmentalist. The activism section of her website goes on, “She has long been involved with the environmental movement, doing concerts around Forest, Oil, Mining and Water protection since the mid-70s. She was a founding member of MUSE (Musicians United for Safe Energy) which produced the historic concerts, album and movie, NO NUKES in 1979. She has been especially active in the fight to preserve our Ancient Forests, performing numerous concerts, lobbying in Washington and getting arrested twice in support of a change in forest policy.”
I’ve never been arrested, but I hope that if I ever am, it is for a cause so important that I’ll want to put it on my resume!
Getting back to Reverb, they are touring with Bonnie this summer, and have previously toured with Reverb has recently toured with Dave Matthews Band, Alanis Morissette, Jack Johnson, Avril Lavigne, Barenaked Ladies, Bonnie Raitt, Guster, O.A.R., and Ray LaMontagne. Many familiar names in that list – they often appear on ecorazzi!
And finally, as a random addition to the post, we found pics of Avril on a scooter recently…as eco-friendly as other celebs on bikes!
