opia.jpgI find it amusing how many different spins the word ‘green’ can take online — for instance, there’s now a new ‘green urban guide’ available online called ‘Greenopia‘. Yup. What makes this site different, however, is that they’ve really gone the extra mile to research the eco-friendly retailers, services, organizations and restaurants in Los Angeles. Each site is rated with a certain number of leaves depending on its eco-cool. Not only that, Greenopia also managed to snag such stars as Laurie David, Ed Begley Jr., Andy Lipkis, Anna Lappé to help introduce certain categories. Currently, in the ‘Eating Out’ section, Bohemian Baby is kicking some serious ass, followed by Ben and Jerry’s — each with four leaves. Most coffee houses appear to get one leaf for the inclusion of some organic beans. Sounds like a night on the town to me. Check out Greenopia for more — also available in physical form for those visiting LA and not wanting to carry a laptop around with them.

If you’re mourning Sudan the rhino, go vegan

The world needs more vegans because more than dollars or pledges or sad-emoji riddled posts, our individual efforts can stop the demand for horns, for zoos, for animal flesh, and for the exploitation of any living being.

Criticize veganism, but don’t discredit it

Oppressive and harmful behaviour has no place in a movement rooted in anti-oppression.

Jallikattu was a single issue campaign doomed for failure

Filing a case in the courts is a time-consuming and expensive affair and, sadly, doomed to fail because, by and large, the laws of the land reflect the views of the people.
