art.jpgCelebrity Activists Joaquin Phoenix, Daryl Hannah, Matthew McConaughey, and activist films from around the globe will be honored at this year’s 2006 Artivist Awards. The “Artivist Awards” honors the winning films of the Annual Artivist Film Festival and the work of outstanding activist celebrities. Past honorees include: James Cromwell, Mira Sorvino, Ed Begley Jr., Tippi Hedren, Mike Farrell, and France Nuyen. It’s been quite the year for celebrity voice-narration work and appearances in activist campaigns. Tom Hanks, Susan Sarandon, Martin Sheen, Viggo Mortensen, Elton John, Morgan Spurlock, Brett Ratner, Andy Garcia, Keanu Reeves, Alannis Morisette, and many others have been busy supporting worthy causes.

The festival, which merges art and activism for global consciousness, is the first international film festival dedicated to addressing human rights, children’s advocacy, environmental preservation, and animal rights. Have a look at their site for more information–we’ll update you with more as the festival approaches in November.
