Jay-Z & Water for LifeWe haven’t been sure what to do with this whole Jay-Z “Water for Life” thing. It’s great because Jay-Z & MTV teaming up on this means that the issue will reach new eyes & ears – and it’s educating the youth of the world. It’s kind of an odd match-up, too…we’re not sure if over-consuming Jay-Z is the right voice for this.

Gristmill provides us with some new information on the topic. Writer Geoff Dabelko spoke to friend Peter Gleick of the Pacific Institute about Jay-Z’s involvement. This is what Peter had to say:

The event was a remarkable and unusual collection of individuals and groups at the UN. Jay-Z underwent a real transition in his understanding of the nature of African water challenges during his recent tour. The documentary that MTV is releasing shows his growing understanding and appreciation of water problems, and reflects in a genuine way his emotional responses to those problems. It also hints at his efforts to help solve them, through education of others, and his own direct financial contributions to specific solutions. If only all of our cultural celebrities and icons were so engaged!

The documentary that he is referring to is Diary of Jay-Z in Africa: Water for Life. It premiered on MTV last week, but if you missed it, like me, catch it tonight at 8pm.

Stop calling vegan food “cruelty-free”

Many vegans proudly proclaim that their food is “cruelty-free” as though issues of justice and injustice begin and end with our use of nonhuman animals.

My Parents Forced Veganism on Me

If vegan parents don’t “force” their vegan values and beliefs on their children, society won’t hesitate to “force” standard American values instead.
