Grist recently talked with Moby about his new “best of” album as well as his activism. He discusses that fact that when he first started supporting causes as a celebrity, he assumed that it could be nothing but a positive act. Then Moby discovered otherwise, “And then I realized that sometimes by being a loudmouth and sort of strident, I was actually hurting some of the causes I was involved in.”

What’s one of his favorite organizations? The Humane Society. Why’s that? “They’re so powerful, and they have such a strong legislative component as well. If you look at the history of civil rights and animal rights and equal rights — I mean obviously it’s great if you can change people’s minds — but you can accomplish so much with legislation,” he said.
It seems that Moby and Woody Harrelson have both come to realize the same thing. You can’t force your opinions on someone…sometimes you can make the biggest difference simply through your actions, not your voice. (This is a tidbit from the Woody interview that I previously did not mention.) Said Moby on this topic, “So now, I’m still just as committed to trying to make the world a better place — I just don’t necessarily want to scream at people in the process.”

Earlier this year, Moby made a video for the Humane Society about factory farming and compassion for animals. Watch it below.

To say that one is a “veggie-vegan” is to make the nonsensical claim that one is a non-vegan-vegan.
