O.A.R. Launces Green Music Tour With Clif Bar
I thought I’d never heard of O.A.R before (which stands for “..of a revolution”) until I hit their website and picked up on the radio hit “Love and Memories”. They’ve got a really cool sound that’s mixed rock/acoustic/instrumental. I dig it.
Anyways, adding more appeal to this group is that fact that their winter tour has gone green. O.A.R. signed up with the Clif Bar GreenNotes program, which “provides resources for bands who want to create positive environmental change and encourage their fans to follow suit.”
As part of the program, O.A.R. received an environmental overhaul that includes some of the following green aspects:
>> Using biodiesel to fuel their tour buses ,eliminating 3,760 pounds of CO2
>> Offsetting the tour’s CO2 emissions (129 tons) through the purchase of clean, renewable wind energy credits from NativeEnergy
>> Using recycled paper and soy based inks for posters and postcards, which eliminated 165 pounds of greenhouse gases (almost all of it CO2)
>> Offsetting with wind energy the shipping of postcards, which saved an additional 150 pounds of CO2
>> Providing an organic cotton t-shirt option for fan merchandise, which prevented more than 330 pounds of fertilizer from being sprayed onto farmers’ fields.
>> Requesting organic food backstage at all shows
>> Minimizing the idling of tour buses
From the press release,
“We are proud to be part of an environmentally conscious program that makes an actual difference,†said Benj Gershman, bassist for O.A.R. “Touring around the country for the past bunch of years has left us looking for opportunities like this to help preserve our environment.â€
It’s great to see bands making these choices — and Clif Bar providing the resources and guidance to make it all come together with GreenNotes. Other bands in the program include Gomez, Guster, Hot Buttered Rum and Garrett Brennan.
Now if you’ll excuse me, I’m going hit iTunes up for O.A.R.’s latest album….
