Broadway actress Lea Salonga is teaming up with the Philippine Society of Pediatric Oncology in spreading awareness on child cancer. Helping her with this campaign are other Filipino personalities like boxer Manny Pacquiao, TV host Lucy Torres-Gomez, network executive Charo Santos-Concio, and newscaster Karen Davila. Santos-Concio and Davila are calling on their industry colleagues to step up exposure on the illness in the country as well.

Hmm, I’m not too keen on their statements likening the fight against cancer to performing onstage or being in a boxing match. Sounds a little too press release-y to me, and I was just waiting for a statement from Lucy Torres-Gomez saying that fighting cancer is just like dancing (which she’s known for). I’d like to see them really getting out there and working for the cause in the future.
