I love how different causes and campaigns big enough to have their own special month (April for the environment, March for women, October for breast cancer–you get my drift) are properly addressed and highlighted throughout the year. A song from Five For Fighting’s album Two Lights will be used for the Breast Cancer 3-Day walk. The single, entitled “World” will be used in the campaign’s television ads.

“I am pleased to attach my song ‘World’ to the Breast Cancer 3-Day walk benefiting Susan G. Komen for the Cure and National Philanthropic Trust. For 25 years, Komen for the Cure has led by example in taking action and making a difference. The Breast Cancer 3-Day allows others to join them in the breast cancer movement,” said John Ondrasik, lead singer for Five For Fighting. “Such themes are embodied in ‘World’ with the simple question ‘What kind of world do you want?’ It is my hope that my music brings awareness to this cause as we continue to work towards a cure.” More.

The walk will take place from August to November this year in several cities in the US. Apparently, John has lost a loved one to breast cancer, hence his commitment to the cause.

Stop calling vegan food “cruelty-free”

Many vegans proudly proclaim that their food is “cruelty-free” as though issues of justice and injustice begin and end with our use of nonhuman animals.

If you’re a vegan who has had to deal with this, and especially if you come from a background of being abused in other ways, you are absolutely not alone
