Twenty years ago Gore proclaimed that music was the worlds bigget threat. Gore proclaimed that all of this “dirty rock music” was making the youth commit crimes, murder, suicide and teenage pregnancy. The PMRC would save us all.

Gore has since been proven WRONG. It’s ironic that many of these musicians were on the PMRC’s hitlist. While Gores hypocrisy has long been exposed, it’s a shame that these musicians are joining in.

What the environment really needs is a global mega concert? How much energy and resources will be exhausted? A “green event” is a nice phrase but such an event still leaves a major footprint and scar. Millions of watts of energy will be used to run sound systems and lights. If you run generators on biodiesel, that biodiesiesel is the result of agriculture which stripped land, destroyed a natural habitat, spread oil based fertilizers, used chemical insecticides, depended on pollution emitting machines to grow and process, used energy to convert, and infrastructure to bring to the event. Buying renewable energy credits is still using energy which would not be needed if not for the concert. One Hundred million watts of electricity will be used that should not have been. Concessionaires using biodegradable/agricultural plastics will charge more. The consumer spending more reults in that consumer needing to regain that lost currency, which results in more pollution. That agricultural/biodegradable plastic uses more energy to make than oil based plastic. It also makes a bigger footprint to grow to a finished product. etc…etc..etc……

If Gore was really concerned about the environment, the only resource he would waste would be his own breath. His hypocrisy is stunning and scary.

Couldn’t have said it better myself Paula. If PRMC is so ignorant that he/she doesn’t realize that you have to spend a little in order to get the information out to the masses (standing in a park somewhere shouting certainly wouldn’t accomplish much) than there isn’t much hope for that person or for his/her children or grandchildren. Because he/she obviously doesn’t give a rats ass about them and the world they might have to live (or die) in. And, by the way, if the ‘rockers’ Gore is supposed to have had a beef with can forgive him for the misguided attitude towards their craft to try and make a difference now, then why the hell should you carry a grudge? In everyone’s lifetime there is a point where they stand for something they shouldn’t, but usually you realize it, admit your mistake….and go on.

I have just visited the Live Earth website http://liveearth.org/index.php and it says:

“In partnership with the U.S. Green Building Commission, SOS – The Campaign for a Climate Crisis will implement a new Green Event Standard with Live Earth that we hope will become the model for carbon neutral concerts and other live entertainment events in the future, as well as anticipate the opportunity to develop this standard into a LEED-approved certification process for entertainment venues.

John Picard, the award-winning sustainability expert and former member of President Clinton’s Green White House task force, is leading the SOS team of sustainability expert. By embedding a team of world-class sustainability experts within the production staff, waste streams will be designed out prior to its negative environmental impact. From power generation at the concerts to garbage generated by concert goers, Live Earth will bestow an eco-friendly legacy on the live entertainment industry.

Among the steps being taken are:

-All electricity that powers the shows will be from renewable sources, either through utility supplied renewable energy, biodiesel generators, or renewable energy credits
-Concessionaires will be encouraged to use and directed to suppliers of agricultural / biodegradable plastics (i.e. made from corn). Also, concessionaire waste will be minimized through a comprehensive recycling system organized at the venue.
-Venue offices, walkways, etc will be retrofitted with compact fluorescent (CFL) light bulbs, where possible.
-The entire production design will follow sustainable light design principles. Production lighting will include the use of LED light bulbs and production/artist trailers will be incorporate low impact technology in areas such as air conditioning units.
-SOS staff and artist air travel will be offset through carbon credits.
-Ground travel will be hybrid or other clean fuel where possible.
-Hotels will be directed to change light bulbs to CFLs, use nontoxic cleaning products, and have recycling containers present in the rooms.”

Hope they can approach 80s bands like Talk Talk, Cock Robin and Transvision Vamp and The The from the 80s.
Those bands are missed!
Would like see not so much commercial shit from these days on the concert.
