tshirt.jpgSome people love Starbucks, some people despise Starbucks, some people stare longingly at an empty storefront corner wishing for Starbucks, while others are content to embrace their local coffee shops and not give a second thought to the matter. Whatever your feelings, Starbucks Coffee is everywhere and so, as a major corporation, is subject to the same environmental scrutiny of everyone else.

Our friend Siel, of GreenLAGirl, started The Starbucks Challenge last year, which holds the company accountable for offering people the choice of fairly traded coffee when requested. Beyond this, Starbucks has come under fire for everything from improving the recycled makeup of their cups to offering organically grown varieties. What we’re reporting on today, however, is a positive step for the coffee maker. Ladies and gents, line up to get your free organic t-shirt designed by ‘Project Runway’ designer, Mychael Knight. (Who’s name, of course, makes me instantly think of Knight Rider.)

Starbucks has partnered  with HT Naturals (a leading provider of sustainable, environmentally-friendly fibers and fabrics) to provide 100% organic t-shirts designed by Mr. Knight — for free. That’s right, between now and February 28th, you can hit the Starbucks site and pick up the shirt free of charge starting at 10AM PST each day (While quantities last).

Starbucks also offered the shirts to celebrities during the recent Golden Globes Awards. In turn, those shirts, each autographed by Mycheal, were then donated to charity through the Clothes Off Our Back Foundation. (Which benefits The Children’s Defense Fund, Save the Children and UNICEF)

It’s great to see ‘The Bucks’ teaming up with an eco-friendly company like HT Naturals for campaigns and give-aways.  I’m hopeful that we’ll continue to see more great green initiatives from the company that everyone loves to despise/desire/demand. Hit the site for more and be sure to pick up a shirt from HT Naturals!
