snipshot_bq1g22sanbfs.jpgIs Tom Cruise getting ready for his big comeback? After getting dropped by Paramount for various antics they considered damaging, he’s showing up at more events and has volunteered to present The Jean Hersholt Humanitarian Award at Sunday’s Oscar telecast. The kicker? Tom’s presenting the award to former Paramount head-honcho, Sherry Lansing. Can you say, ‘awkward’?

Lansing is being honored for her passionate work in support of fighting cancer and the long list of charitable foundations and organizations she has helped directly. You can find out more regarding her background here.

The Jean Hersholt Humanitarian Award is presented to an “individual in the motion picture industry whose humanitarian efforts have brought credit to the industry.” Past recipients have included Frank Sinatra, Charlton Heston, Audrey Hepburn, Paul Newman and Elizabeth Taylor.

It’s great to see Tom out front again. He’s currently starring opposite Redford and Streep in the flick Lions for Lambs. Filming started at the end of January. Expect to see Cruise at more charity functions and events as he seeks to rebuild his public image. Sofa-hop anyone?
