The Roasting of Graydon Carter, NRDC gala

March 10th 2007

Three point one million dollars was raised at Wednesday night’s Natural Resources Defense Council gala. Many green celebs were in attendance, helping to roast honoree and Vanity Fair editor Graydon Carter.

Vanity Fair, is in fact, planning their second green issue for May. (Wow, they have a lot of special issues going on. In July, Bono will serve as the Guest Editor of the Africa issue). Leonardo DiCaprio, Glenn Close, Bette Midler, Kevin Bacon, and John Mellencamp (among many others) were all on hand to praise Carter’s greenness.

From the article,

Robert Kennedy Jr. said some eco-warriors might doubt the seriousness of the oh-so-social Carter.

Kennedy insisted, “He does love green stuff – especially money.” But, seriously, Kennedy hailed Carter for recasting Vanity Fair as “one of the most important information forums in our country.”

Carter finished it all up with a stab at Bush and a commitment to protect the earth from “polluters and, sadly, our own federal government.”

Sounds like a fun filled evening…and $3.1 million – not too shabby.

  1. Actually, Bono will be guest editing VF’s July Issue. The May issue is green, and the July issue is Africa/AIDs-centered.

  2. Oops! Good eye. Corrected…
