Get ready for some serious HD TV. This weekend, Discovery Channel and Discovery HD Theater are launching their 11-part series, Planet Earth, narrated by Sigourney Weaver. The series will be featured on Discover each Sunday leading up to April 22, Earth Day.

The series boasts much footage that has never before been seen on film. From the release, “Filmed in more than 200 locations, each of PLANET EARTH’s eleven episodes focuses on a specific habitat, illustrating life in the highest mountains and the darkest caves; the shallowest water and the deepest oceans; ice-covered lands and great plains; untamed jungles and giant forests; fresh water and the harshest deserts.”

They also tell us that over 300 hours of film were logged before catching this moment on tape.

Catch the first three episodes on Sunday from 8 – 11 pm on Discovery.
