Idol Gives BackAmerican Idol hopes to entertain & inform tonight with a special 2 hour episode entitled Idol Gives Back. It starts at 8/7c and it will still be part of the competition, but with the purpose of raising as much money as possible. Simon Cowell had this to say about it, “I think it’s just about opening your eyes to a couple of things and simply making a choice whether you want to help or not.”

They hope to show us how the world is so separated by issues – 2 million people dying of malaria each year in Africa, and no one dying of malaria in the USA. Bono will be on the show tonight, promoting the ONE campaign, and apparently when he says “Two worlds collide”, we’ll be seeing two of “the most famous people in America” in Africa and seeing what it would be like to have your child have a 1 in 5 chance of dying of malaria before their fifth birthday.

This is supposed to be an incredible night of entertainment and information – and let’s not forget fundraising! The show will be hosted by Ellen and will feature appearances by Celine Dion, Kelly Clarkson, Gwen Stefani, Earth, Wind & Fire, Il Divo, Keira Knightley, Hugh Grant, Josh Groban with the African Children’s Choir, Jack Black, Helen Mirren, Rascal Flatts, Quincy Jones, Carrie Underwood, Annie Lennox and many more.

If you decide to give money, it will go towards charities in the USA such as Save the Children, America’s Second Harvest, Boys & Girls Club, Children’s Health Fund. The money will also help charities in Africa such as The Global Fund to Fight AIDS, Tuberculosis, and Malaria, Malaria No More, and Nothing but Nets.

Wow. Oh, and did we mention that Ecorazzi’s own Summer Bowen will be there? We can’t wait to hear the insider information tomorrow!
