Apparently, when martial artist and action star Jet Li was just a boy, he and his team went to Washington and performed their wushu routine for Nixon, who asked him if he’d like to be his personal bodyguard someday. The cheeky little fella said, “I don’t want to protect any individual. When I grow up, I want to defend my one billion Chinese countrymen!”

That was quite a good answer, in my opinion. Nowadays, it looks like he’s making good on his promise. Jet Li’s an ambassador for Red Cross and he has also established a group called The One Foundation. The organization aims to help provide faster aid for victims of natural disasters in China and also to address adolescent depression and mental illness.

Check out all videos from The One Foundation here. If anyone could translate them, that would be really great.

Thanks to Linton for the tip!

If you’re mourning Sudan the rhino, go vegan

The world needs more vegans because more than dollars or pledges or sad-emoji riddled posts, our individual efforts can stop the demand for horns, for zoos, for animal flesh, and for the exploitation of any living being.

Criticize veganism, but don’t discredit it

Oppressive and harmful behaviour has no place in a movement rooted in anti-oppression.

Jallikattu was a single issue campaign doomed for failure

Filing a case in the courts is a time-consuming and expensive affair and, sadly, doomed to fail because, by and large, the laws of the land reflect the views of the people.
