Matt Dillon at Yahoo Launch of Be a Better PlanetYahoo is inundating us with green today, and we’re pretty happy about it. Not just because we like green, but also because we got to see and hear from Matt Dillon today in Times Square.

It started with the launch of Yahoo! Green – a site which is set up as a portal to all things green on Yahoo! Then, this morning, Matt Dillon teamed up with Yahoo! and Global Green USA (they’ve been busy lately!) to announce Be a Better Planet, and initiative that “empowers Americans to take action against climate change”.

We’ve seen Dillon do some charity work before, but haven’t heard much from him on the environment until now. He helped these organizations announce a competition amongst cities that will finish up on June 8. By using the tools on Be a Better Planet, such as pledging to be green, sharing your knowledge on Yahoo Answers, and using Yahoo oneSearch, you can help earn your city “green credits”. Yahoo Fleet Hybrid TaxisThe prize? A fleet of hybrid taxis for your hometown, of course! NYC got some today, and they look pretty! I wouldn’t mind seeing those babies in my neck of the woods (or the swamp, as it be).

Ecorazzi friend and Green Options writer Amy Stodghill was there and tells us:

Actor Matt Dillon said, “I’m concerned with many environmental threats facing us and I want to do my part at reducing global warming.” He encouraged the use of motion sensor lights, and suggested a few things each person can do such as replacing incandescent light bulbs with CFLs, turning off the lights in empty rooms, walking or taking public transportation and unplugging chargers from outlets.

Not a ground-breaking speech, Matt, but we’re happy to see you’re behind the cause.
