I was going to write a much longer response, but I have to ask a few questions first:

"It’s easy to blame in a time like this, and everyone is."

Really? Was it easy for Gore to oppose the war in 2002, before the war began? While 70+ percent of the American people SUPPORTED the war? Gore is not a johnny-come-lately on the issue of the war. He opposed it from the beginning and is still speaking out on the issue today. While every other major politician backed down, Gore stood up. Gore is talking about things such as torture, illegal wiretapping, and our civil liberties, none of which are being addressed by any other major politician today. Gore has also said that there is no way we are going to solve the climate crisis until we address the fundamental cracks in our democracy. That's why he wrote the book, he knows we will get nowhere in fighting the climate crisis unless we address the underlying problems. Also, what do you mean by the word "blame"? Who is Gore blaming that he should not be blaming? Which facts that Gore states do you dispute? I'll look forward to your answers. Thanks.

EDIT: Unless you are simply saying that Gore should only speak on the environment and shut his mouth on every other major issue? Is that what you're saying? If so, I strongly disagree. He is driving the debate, and people are looking to him for leadership on more than just the climate crisis.

Hello everyone..I just wanted to say that the environmental movement is also a political one, in that it requires our government, as well as every other government on the planet, to set standards and pass laws on a global level concerning it. And up till now no one, not even my fav Hillary has properly addressed it. So if Al runs on an environmental agenda I would be voting for him. I also think we need to look at the big picture and the correlation between war and disrespect for the environment as a connected issue. Think the sexual politics of meat, make the leap peolpe. Peace and green grass to all!

I guess what I meant by the blame game is that he's complaining about the situation in Iraq, Bin Laden is still out there, etc. on several talk shows. It's easy to blame in a time like this, and everyone is. I just don't think it's constructive. And no, I haven't read the book yet and wasn't referring to the book.
And I don't know how Al is keeping the speculation alive. I've heard him say several times that he's on "different campaign" now and is not going to run.

I think all of your comments are really interesting and I understand where you are all coming from. Would love to hear more!

I agree with you in that he does now tend to very much politicize the environmental issue, which is a very, very, VERY destructive thing to do to The Movement. It's also why he makes a terrible environmental leader - he's too polarizing. I applaud his efforts, but don't see him as the Pied Piper.

"playing the blame game."

If you had actually read the book, you would know that he blames everyone, not simply Republicans or politicians. Also, his statements happen to be factual and accurate.

"I do have to say, however, that I don’t see the signs that Al will run. And I guess I kind of wish everyone would move on with their lives."

You do realize that in order to solve the climate crisis there must be someone in the presidency who is truly committed to the cause. So, I certainly do believe that Gore should run. He's talking about things that no one else will talk about. I don't think anyone is going to "move on" as long as Gore continues to keep speculation alive about whether or not he will run in 2008.

i think the only question is: does he think he'll win?

since i think he'll win if he runs, i think he'll run.

also think he'll wait until the last minute to declare.
