Pirates of the Caribbean, Orlando Bloom’s new film, is a hit — grossing $401m since Wednesday, beating the $ 382m six-day total achieved by Spiderman 3 earlier in the year. However, Bloom has swapped his pirate gear for something a little warmer. Earlier this year, he traveled to Antarctica to see first-hand the damage global warming has inflicted on the ice caps.
The actor was inspired to make a stand after seeing, “how tragically fragile the ice caps are.†Bloom insists that the debate about the environment is not all “doom and gloom.†He believes that, “Life is about balance, and we all have to make the effort in areas that we can to enable us to make a difference.”
Orlando, a committed environmentalist, was reported to have shared a bathroom and toilet with 27 other individuals, as well carrying out other menial tasks such as dish washing and laundry duties.
