Did Environmental Passions Cause Split Between Larry and Laurie?

=Making the rounds through the media circuits this afternoon is the sad news that Larry David and Laurie David are calling it quits after 14 years of marriage. As many of you know, we regularly have highlighted Laurie and Larry’s commitments to fighting global warming. Laurie David in particular has made massive waves with co-producing An Inconvenient Truth and her StopGlobalWarming site. Many consider her to be the #2 person in terms of environmental power in the United States behind Al Gore.

According to some reports, it may have been this sudden rise in fame and commitment to the cause that strained the relationship. In 2004, Larry David told Eric Alterman for a piece on Hollywood fundraising in The Atlantic:

“‘I heard nothing about the environment for all our lives and now this. I wish she would at least take back her own name.’”

Might the StopGlobalWarming tour with Sheryl Crow been the final nail in the coffin for the relationship? Obviously, speculating over why two people have separated doesn’t make us any better than the other gossip sites out there — but you have to wonder? We’ll leave it at that.

    Reporting info such as this is tacky, tacky, tacky and makes you have ZERO credibility – what is this Grist site – a hippie version of “Entertainment Tonight” and People Magazine celebrity gossip fluff.

    The divorce of two people should remain a private matter, not a subject of unsubstantiated innuendo, gossip and blathering.

    I lost respect for Grist when you publish crap like this.

    Actually, Laurie David has been creating one HUGE carbon footprint here on Martha’s Vineyard for the last 6 years. Her disgusting and ostentatious trophy building has been virtually ceaseless for about 6 years now. The trucks and pollution stop only when Mrs. Carbon Sasquatch is here for her summer vacation, making herself the center of everyone’s attention.

    And I’d say the fact that I saw Laurie and her hottie but dumb building contractor, Bart Thorpe, holding hands while walking on a secluded dock to a boat yesterday, has a lot more to do with her marriage breaking up than the scratchy toilet paper she’s forced on her family. I’ve also seen Bart bicycling in front of my house with a little girl he kept calling, Romy. Bart, coincidentally, left his wife recently, too.

    I met Laurie David 6 years ago. I didn’t like her then. I don’t like her now. She is the prime example of a spoiled, selfish, rich girl who says, “do what I say, not what I do”. She is a narcissist and a hypocrite to the nth degree.

    Spoken like a true right-wing reactionary. It should be obvious that one set of rules is needed for the Aware, and another set of rules applies to the little people. As long as Laurie “talks the talk” she deserves our respect and support!

    Jim, what in the world makes Jackie sound like a right-wing reactionary? I bet Jackie walks the talk, while your heroine just talks the talk. The mark of a true progressive is in the doing, not flashing the fake like so many progressive pretenders.

    LOL, I love the expression Carbon Sasquatch! We need them to walk it, not talk it.

    Whatever the reason they broke up, the fact remains she’s going to be sse single. Which means it’s finally my chance to marry her. Who could resist someone who is so passionate about saving our world? Certainly not me. So I have recorded a video of me asking her to marry me. I’ve posted it online. But it’s been a couple of days now and she hasn’t gotten back to me. So she obviously hasn’t seen it yet. Thus, if anyone knows her, it would be great if you could forward it to her. Thanks so much!
