Queen Latifa’s Arctic Tale Film Gets Starbucks Green Tie-In

snipshot_e412nlp04j6k.jpgStarbucks is continuing to push forward the discussion on climate change by getting behind a new film narrated by Queen Latifa titled Arctic Tale. The coffee-maker, both despised and loved by the American public, has been embracing the green wave and working with several organizations and media groups to make people aware of the issue of global warming. From the article,

“Kenneth Lombard, president of Starbucks Entertainment, said the company is planning a less subtle campaign for the ”Arctic Tale” partnership with Paramount Classics, the Viacom Inc. studio behind Al Gore’s ”An Inconvenient Truth,” and National Geographic Films, which produced ”March of the Penguins.”

Starbucks will play the movie soundtrack, which features Ben Harper, Aimee Mann and the Shins, in stores. The company has also designated Aug. 15 a ”National Day of Discussion,” and plans to host in-store talks in some cities with environmental awareness groups such as Earth Watch and Global Green USA.

A “National Day of Discussion”? Leave it to the corporations to inspire more people to talk than our own government. I’ll be curious to see if my own Starbucks in Ithaca, NY gets behind this initiative and schedules an event. Starbucks is planning climate change info on everything from posters to coffee holders, so the message will be out there. Let’s just hope people are inspired to read it.
