Ontario’s Bayfest Runs Partially on Hydrogen Energy

Sarnia, Ontario’s Rogers Bayfest is carrying on as usual, with a little twist. Last night Nickelback kicked off the four day concert which will also feature such names as Aerosmith, Toby Keith, and Def Leppard.

This year’s concert is experimenting with a bit of green power – and one that we haven’t seen be used in this type of setting in the US yet – hydrogen fuel cells. The energy is being used to light the front and back entrances, and a couple of other locations away from the stage. Additionally, higher efficiency LED lights are being utilized to cut down on energy usage.

Hydrogen is on a roll in the local area. Two local organizations have been working together on what will be a 2 year, $1.5 million project to create a demo of market ready fuel cell projects.

Concert organizers say that if it goes well this year, they’ll consider using fuel cells in a bigger way next year.  Another point goes to the green musicians team. I’m going to start to keep score!
