And so another green documentary peaks its head from around the curtain and prepares to hit the main stage of American cinema — a dangerous and unnerving move for any film. Will people take to it? Will it inspire that word-of-mouth undercurrent that carried Gore’s An Inconvenient Truth beyond the theaters and into everything from book clubs to boardrooms? Looking for DiCaprio’s flick to have the same impact as Al’s is perhaps an unfair comparison since the latter had perfect timing and this one is more a reinforcement of the first. I’ve heard comparisons that if Inconvenient was “This is global warming..” than The 11th Hour is more like “People! What the hell are we doing to our planet?!”
It should be really interesting to see reactions — and box office numbers. Obviously, having this movie made in the first place is a massive achievement because it guarantees that someone will see it. Someone will become inspired by the message. This weekend, it will be opening in a very limited 4 theater release. Next weekend, it will bounce to 17 and then after that expand to the Top 100 Markets. So, do you plan on seeing it?
