From Hurricane Katrina rebuilding to the humanitarian crisis in Iraq, Angelina Jolie has had a very busy week bringing attention to important causes. The actress and UNHCR Goodwill Ambassador flew from New York to Syria on Monday. In Damascus, she visited a UNHCR registration center and spend time talking to Iraqi refugees in their homes.Today, she traveled to Iraq and witnessed 1,200 refugees setup in a makeshift camp on the border, unable to leave the country. From the article,
“‘I have come to Syria and Iraq to help draw attention to the humanitarian crisis and to urge governments to increase their support for UNHCR and its partners,’ Jolie said in a statement. ‘My sole purpose in both countries is to highlight the plight of those uprooted by the war in Iraq.’”
According to reports, Jolie also spent time meeting with American troops and multi-national forces. Her visit is obviously doing what was intended; drawing attention to the cause through her voice and celebrity. Sadly, of the more than 70 articles currently showing under Google News about the trip, very few are actually showing how you can get involved and help make a difference. So, here you go!
