206154789_804625d336_o.jpgWhen LivingHomes CEO Steve Glenn entertained a group of Hollywood producers several years ago with his dating misfortunes, he never thought they would eventually end up on the big screen. Glenn had the unfortunate pleasure of watching many women he had seriously dated find their ideal match immediately after breaking up with him. “We decided it just seemed like the perfect idea for a great romantic comedy,” remembers producer Mike Karz. And so, after Glenn penned a treatment, the movie Good Luck Chuck (starring Dane Cook and Jessica Alba) was born.

It’s an interesting connection and resume addition for one of the newest green builders in the United States. Glenn’s company, LivingHomes, produces pre-fabricated natural, non-toxic and sustainably-derived homes. Emphasis on modern design, functional space, and light add to a substantially smaller ecological footprint than comparable structures. The company’s first home, which also happens to be Glenn’s home, was one of only two residences to be selected for the United States Green Building Program’s LEED Home (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) certification program. Recycled denim insulation, LED lighting, recycled bathroom tiles, cork flooring, and many other green features accompany each design. It also helps that the homes looks gorgeous.

Sure, the romance may have been difficult in the beginning, but with a new movie, new green company, and plenty of accolades to go along with everything; we think Glenn has finally found his “perfect match.” Good Luck Chuck opens September 21st.

Thought you would be interested to know that Steve Glenn’s award-winning and well published first LivingHome was designed by well known Los Angeles Architect/Educator, Ray Kappe, Founder of SCI-ARC. Kappe’s houses have been described as the “apotheosis of the California Modern House.”

As a builder myself, I’ve got to say there is ABSOLUTELY NO THING as a green NEW home, no matter how “greenwashed” the materials and design. Certainly no green new mansions. New building is consumption, pure and simple. The ecologically benign action for anyone interested in anything other than lip service to environmental causes would be to live in an older modest well-maintained home, and one of sensible size. The smaller, the more serious you take your commitment to ecology.
