Eco-Fabulous: Models Go Carbon Free For Eco-Chic Project

Cosmetic creator Lancome has teamed up with Rag & Bone to create 150 limited edition t-shirts that say “Carbon Free”. Before you go and throw-up over another green branding initiative, know that all proceeds from the sales of these shirts (made from 100% organic cotton in North Carolina and $50 a piece) go towards the Carbonfund ecological organization.

Additionally, Lancome’s “Eco-Chic” project goes beyond the t-shirts. They’ve offset the travel of their models and employees and also gone carbon-neutral at their NYC Boutiques. Internally, the company has worked to reduce the print and media handed out to press by relying more heavily on digital online access and limiting waste. We’d love to see more organic products make it into their line, but we’ll take these first steps as a good sign of things to come. Hit the jump for more.

  1. Carbon neutrality is a lie. Carbon offsetting doesn’t remove ex-fossil carbon from the biocycle. Most times it doesn’t even remove it from the atmosphere.

We don’t need fashion. We need action.

  2. I am happy for any fashion that is manufactured with sustainability, however, they need to spend the money first on their product line, and then launch this shirt. putting deadly chems on your face is not friendly. and i fear this is a marketing strategy and not an honest attempt to become green. folks see these shirts and think that the products too are responsible. they are not!

  3. I just recently found your site and I love it.

One posting did disturb me. Lancome. They are a huge corporation who still
    partake in animal testing.

In this day of education, knowledge and research, does my mascara really
need to be tested on an animal?

They are one of many companies that I will personally not support, no matter
what they do, until they stop animal testing.

They deserve no such praise, recognition or promotion.
