kt_tunstall3.jpgHot on the heels of success with her first album, Eye To The Telescope, musician KT Tunstall is getting ready to launch her second LP, Drastic Fantastic. The UK Scotsman recently caught up with Tunstall and discussed everything from her rocket to fame to her environmental passions. Here’s a great snippet from the interview,

“She is not particularly political but says you don’t have to be to find Bush’s Republican government repugnant. She has been a high-profile participant in environmental concerts and campaigns, but do the public want another pontificating celebrity, who tells them what to do before being driven to the airport in their Jag? ‘I don’t pontificate. It’s not about preaching but about putting my house in order. But if someone asks, I’ll tell them what I’ve learned.’

How’s that for a refreshing angle on celebrity activism? The article also mentions how KT planted 6,000 trees to offset the first album and plans on donating a portion of the profits from Drastic Fantastic towards investing in renewable energy sources in developing countries. “‘I feel responsible because I am making money out of it. I use diesel fuel on my buses and carbon-neutralise the audience’s journey to gigs. In this next album, a portion of the money is going towards investing in renewable energy sources in developing countries. In my personal life, I am greening my flat. I don’t have a big house. I don’t own a car or a television.’”

Her one guilty confession? She once took a private jet — just to see what it was like. “‘I’ll probably never get on one again. It did make me feel a bit sick. I enjoyed it, but afterwards I thought, it’s really not cool.’” Good on ya, KT.
