Though I love the idea – get those tires out of landfills already! – Flat Tire footwear are not actually the first shoes to have tire soles. The Tarahumara (Raramuri) Indians in Chihuahua, Mexico have been sporting tires shoes for decades. The tread helps them sprint up and down the Copper Canyon trails, protecting their feet from the rough terrain. Necessity is the mother of invention after all.

That’s such a great idea. These shoes sound perfect for us folks trying to avoid leather shoes for animal welfare and environmental reasons.
