If Ecorazzi was a color, we’d be green. If Ecorazzi was a food, we’d be tofu. If Ecorazzi was an international leader in responsible broadcasting that maintained an education message while still managing to be super fun…well, we’d be the Discovery Channel.

Just recently, the U.S. Green Building Council awarded the 540,000-square-foot Discovery Communications headquarters with a ”platinum” LEED certification- the highest level of distinction possible.  The LEED certification process gives buildings points for environmentally friendly practices such as: innovations in development, water savings, energy efficiency, materials selection and indoor environmental quality.  And so far, only 62 buildings have received the very coveted “platinum” certification.

The recent Discovery makeover consisted of an array of environmentally friendly upgrades, like: more than 4,000 of the office building’s incandescent light bulbs were changed to fluorescent.  Three large water tanks were installed in an underground parking garage to collect rainwater to irrigate a one-acre patch of lawn.  And finally, workers held contests to see who could save the most energy by turning off computers and lights.

Let’s be honest: Discovery, we here at Ecorazzi have a big old fat crush on you. Do you maybe want to get a soda sometime at the drug store or wear my pin?  Please circle: Yes No Maybe.
