A (automatic) Jetta gets an EPA mileage rating of 21 mpg city and 29 mpg highway, while the Prius gets an impressive 48 mpg city and 45 mpg highway.

Plus, the Prius is a much more reliable car than the Jetta...lots of mechanical issues.
