A (automatic) Jetta gets an EPA mileage rating of 21 mpg city and 29 mpg highway, while the Prius gets an impressive 48 mpg city and 45 mpg highway. My gf is looking at cars and I learned that a Jetta, with a regular old engine, gets better mileage than the Prius. So what is the point of the hybrid again?
