Look up at Li-S batteries that are emerging, they're gonna EV's range by some nice little number (2 times, 3 times ?).

Besides, if EV is too expencive you could put 2 cylinder petrol engine that will solely run generator (when needed), with electric motor of some 30-50 kW, and you're good to hit the road. This is a cheap compromise, between full EV, plus it should have greater range :)

Mr. Gray, your statement drips of ignorance.

1. High end sports cars are always impractical. They are grown up toys, but they are worth every penny to those who can afford them.

2. The range is hundreds of miles, and can recharge overnight from a regular socket. Are you expecting long-haul truckers to give up their rigs for this car?

3. The batteries are expected to last for more than 100,000 miles. The people who buy these cars will not be putting that many miles on them in 5 years. Due to the low number of moving parts, these cars will probably have a much lower maintenance cost than many other performance vehicles.

4. Not only will the Tesla be a kickass sports car, it is a proving ground for tech that could eventually see mass marketing and reach every driver in the world. At the very least, it has lit a fire under major auto makers, who have almost all announced plug-in hybrids or pure electric vehicles of their own, due out in a few years. You want the world to maintain our energy dependence on the middle-east?

You might want to think a little harder before calling them braindead morons.

I, for one, am grateful for the wealthy people who speed along this inevitable change in personal transportation technology.

The Tesla will hopefully be every bit as awesome as expected. Electric cars sure have come a long way. Zap has a new model coming out that does 0-60 mph in 4.8 seconds!

NO surprise that puppet Brad Pitt does what his master George Clooney commands - Gooney says buy an impractical, overpriced EV and Pitt complies. I suppose these notables will lead the average Joe to mortgage his house so he can be rangebound by this "Can't do" car and spend $30,000 every 5 years for a new battery pack. Hollywood is just as braindead as always. Way to go guys. Only need to sell to another 240 million American millionaires and you may achieve a small change in carbon emissions. But I wou;dn't count on that.
Morons, all.
