The official launch date of Discovery Channel’s new environmental venture, Planet Green, has been set to June 4th at 6pm EDT. With this announcement, Discovery is finally taking the wraps off its programming schedule — with over “250 hours of original green lifestyle programming” set to hit the airwaves in 50 million homes. From the release,

“Planet Green’s original programming combines unique formats and the most up-to-date information in green living with pop culture icons and engaging personalities to activate the armchair environmentalist in all of us. Whether it’s SuChin Pak reporting on the latest eco-innovations, events or hot green trends, or comedian and social issues humorist Annabelle Gurwitch showing everyday households how to come clean for the sake of their bank accounts and the health of the planet, or rapper/actor Chris “Ludacris” Bridges and mega rocker Tommy Lee battling it out to see who can out-green the other as their entourages hit the tour route: Planet Green proves that sustainable living is entertaining living.”

We also have to give props to Discovery for creating a “press kit website” — instead of the usual giant packet of paper and discs sent out. The server hosting the site is also powered by 100% solar energy — and the uses minimal graphics and a low-wattage color palette. “With every click, your browser remembers the pages it views, which requires less server interaction and – you guessed it – less energy.”

There’s obviously more to come on everything happening with this massive 24/7 green network. To get your fix now, check out the press site here.
