Ya’ll, Barbra Streisand knows what’s up! Proving she has a good heart (I’m punny), the infamous singer/actress/director recently donated $5 million to Cedars-Sinai Medical Center to endow a cardiovascular research and education program.
The Barbra Streisand Women’s Cardiovascular Research Education Program will conduct trials on new drugs for women, try to identify the role of gender in heart disease, and work on other ways of reducing risks. Babs said: “Women need to be educated about female cardiovascular disease, and the medical community must be propelled toward change.”
Dr. Eduardo Marban, who directs the Cedars-Sinai Heart Institute, revealed that even though most research on heart disease revolves around men, cardiovascular disease is actually the nation’s leading killer of women – responsible for nearly 500,000 deaths a year. Yikes!
Oh, this might be an awesome time to interject that vegetarianism is not only super green, but also super heart friendly…I’m just sayin’. Anyway, thanks Babs for donating some of that cash to such a good-hearted deed.
