Celebrities Design Tees To Benefit Rainforest Foundation

Wednesday night, fashion designer Carlos Miele launched a series of t-shirts designed by celebrities and fashionistas to directly benefit the Rainforest Foundation. Those lending their personalized touches to the green-themed tees included Scarlett Johansson, Camilla Belle, Michael Roberts, Diana Picasso, and Alice Braga.

100% of the proceeds from the launch party will benefit the conservation organization — which was founded by rocker Sting and his wife Trudie Styler back in 1989. Said Miele of the effort, “I’ve liked the work of the Rainforest Foundation for a long time. I think Sting was a visionary when he came to Brazil and he was really concerned about Amazonia and the rainforest. For me, it’s great to support this foundation.”

You too can support the foundation — with 20% of each purchased tee going towards the Rainforest Foundation. Prepare for some sticker shock, however. I found one store online selling the main shirt for $173.00. Yikes.

    I think it’s great when celebrities lend a helping hand to publicize environmental issues, but usually the fundraising intent is paired with an awareness factor…so while selling t-shirts for $173 will definitley raise money, a lot fewer people will buy the shirts therefore greatly decreasing the awareness potential. And come on, is 20% all you can give away? T-shirts do not cost that much to manufacture.

  • Give locally

    As we have seen from Stings charity (ranked THE WORST in NYC) Don’t buy these shirts. Give the money directly to a local charity or even a bum on the street. At least that way you know your donation will not be lying stagnant in a multi, multi millionaire rock’s star account for tax advantage purposes.

    Just act locally people – it makes “cents”
