Night Shyamalan has been trying to find that same spark, but like a band with a one hit wonder, he just keeps cranking out one pretentious and overblown "thriller" after another. Scenes in movies like Signs are so contrived that you can practically hear Mr. Shyamalan whispering in your ear: "I'm trying to build a sense of foreboding and suspense here, okay?"
