Today Is World Environment Day. Kind Of Like Earth Day. But With Wacky Themes

Welcome to World Environment Day! Created by the UN in 1972, it’s similar to Earth Day but with different annual host cities every year and commemorated with an international exposition through the week of June 5. There are also themes to rally behind — such as this year’s “Kick The Habit – Towards A Low Carbon Economy” hosted by Wellington, New Zealand. Last year was “Melting Ice — A Hot Topic” (get it?).

The problem is, we really don’t recognize WED here in the states as much as other countries. Earth Day is just too powerful a force — and contains fewer syllables. Plus Jack Nicholson was born on April 22nd, while Mark Wahlberg was born on June 5th.
