SandDance Follows Sundance’s Lead and Gets Green

June 9th 2008

You know I frigin hate it when sand gets stuck in my shoes…that is of course unless I’m eating vegan chocolate on the beach while watching some classy film on a solar powered screen. For that I’m totally willing to make an exception!

Earlier in the year Ecorazzi brought you complete coverage of the Sundance Film Festival and all the amazing green activities that went on. Now we cross the country to bring you news of another film festival — the SandDance.

Maybe it’s just a clever nickname, but SandDance (aka the Maui Film Festival ) has developed a solid reputation in the film industry and some people even consider it the Sundance of the Pacific. Well like Sundance, this year the festival is getting a little greener. Festival director Barry Rivers announced: “For the first time, SandDance will be solar-powered, people will be watching films with energy captured during the day on solar panels.” Also one of the documentaries featured will be Revolution Green: A True Story of Biodiesel in America. How cool is that?

The five-day soiree will present 60 full-length and 25 short films and honor celebrities such as Pierce Brosnan, desperate housewife Felicity Huffman, Academy Award nominee Virginia Madsen and Dennis Quaid.

If you too would be willing to get a little sand in your shoe for some great films and delicious food, visit MauiFilmFestival.com and get your ticket
