Al Gore’s Home Gets Air Attack From Global Warming Skeptics

More hot air

Filed under: not green — michael @ 6:57 pm

In an effort to draw attention to their cause, a group calling themselves “Americans for Prosperity” is flying a giant six-story balloon over Al Gore’s house in Tennessee. Apparently, they’re really angry about all the “fear” global warming is causing and believe there are a whole bunch of policies up and coming that are not in America’s best interests. So, in an effort to warn us all, they’re flying hot air balloons all over the place as part of their “Hot Air Tour”.

Anyways, Al Gore’s camp was pretty sure that flying a hot air balloon over his neighborhood publicizing some sort of message was against local ordinances. We think the balloon probably says something like “Al Gore is a jerk!” or “Al Gore will eat your children!”. Sure enough, the group lost their permit and Nashville police said they would “physically restrain members of the crew if they attempted to launch the balloon in a public park.” This is getting good.

As of 3pm EST, Gore was bracing for a hot air attack about a mile and half from the previous locale — on private property. We have no idea if success was theirs and/or if Al Gore shook his fists as the balloon flew over.

One thing is for sure: this is the funniest thing we’ve heard all day.

Brad And Angelina Sell Their New Orleans Home

Filed under: buildings and construction, cars-houses — michael @ 10:37 am

jolie-pitt house

Despite professing a great deal of love for the quality of life in New Orleans, the Jolie-Pitt clan have nevertheless decided to sell off their $3.5 million dollar home in the city’s French Quarter. The brief two-year residence worked out well for Pitt’s filming of the flick The Curious Case of Benjamin Button — as well as his work with the Make It Right NOLA foundation.

That’s not to say that his participation will be any less in the construction of those 150 green homes on the Lower 9th Ward — but as Cele|bitchy points out, it’s further proof that the family may be seeking more privacy outside the U.S. Most recently, Brad and Angelina decided to lease a French chateau set amidst an organic winery for the birth of their upcoming twins.

So, I guess that means he’s not running for mayor then? :)

For the life of me, I can’t find it — but I remember hearing somewhere that the Jolie-Pitts had planned to renovate their home with some eco-friendly additions. Solar panels, rain-water catchment, etc. We have no idea if these additions were included in the listing.

A detailed look at what $3.5 million could buy you two years ago in the French Quarter is available after the fold.

Bernadette Peters To Sign Broadway Barks Book On July 12th

Filed under: animals, books, events, events: nyc, products, theater — parrish @ 10:12 am

A couple months ago Ecorazzi told you that two-time Tony Award winning actress Bernadette Peters, along with tons of other big Broadway stars, would be participating in the 10th annual Broadway Barks event to raise money and awareness for New York City dogs living in shelters. Well, Bernadette has taken it a step further by publishing a children’s book by the same name (Broadway Barks) and will sign copies next month at the Broadhurst theater.

Broadway Barks tells the story of Kramer, a down-on-his-luck dog who after being abandoned follows a woman home from the park and finds a whole new life.  The book was released in late April and features illustrations by Liz Murphy and a CD with an original song penned by Peters herself.  Proceeds from the sales benefit Broadway Barks, the charitable organization co-founded by Peters and good friend Mary Tyler Moore.

The book signing will take place at 12:30 PM on July 12th at the Broadhurst Theater, shortly preceeding the Broadway Barks event which begins at 3:30 in Shubert Alley. About Broadway Barks, Peters says: ”Our work is bringing us closer to the day when we will no longer have to euthanize any healthy and treatable homeless cats and dogs because of a lack of space. As a community, we are most effective in helping animals when we pool our strengths to achieve what is, after all, a shared goal — the elevation and continued welfare of animals in our society.”

So if you live in NYC make sure you stop by the Broadhurst Theater and Shubert Alley on July 12th with your copy of Broadway Barks and help improve the lives of a few lovely shelter dogs.

Billy Crystal And David Letterman Spoof The WE Campaign

Filed under: video, web — michael @ 9:32 am

The WE Campaign has produced several television ads featuring notables such as the Reverend Al Sharpton and Pat Robertson putting aside their differences and coming together to fight climate change. Like everything else that’s fair game in the world of PSAs, it was only a matter of time before someone decided to spoof the concept.

Enter Billy Crystal and David Letterman sitting on a beach and discussing their differences. Let’s just say that it doesn’t end up working out in the end — especially when it comes to paying for sex.

Steve Carell Screens Get Smart For Charity

Filed under: green and famous — parrish @ 9:00 am

Good news on the charity front! Last night Steve Carell held a special screening of his latest movie, Get Smart, at the Dana-Farber Cancer Institute to benefit the Zachary Carson Brain Tumor Fund.

The fund has an interesting backstory — Carell met Zachary Carson on the set of The Office last year through the Make-A-Wish Foundation. Carson has since passed away from diffuse pontine glioma — a type of pediatric cancer — and the fund was set-up in his memory. In 2007 Carell also lended his fame to the organization when he held a premiere of his film Evan Almighty in Boston.

Get Smart tickets went for $100 and included not only the film, but also a full fledge auction featuring such items as the chance to have Carell record a special voice mail message just for you. Sweet. About the event, Carell said: ”It was a great group of people, is a great group of people, and I just felt very honored to be included in that circle.”

To learn more visit Dana-Farber.org and don’t forget to check out Get Smart, opening in theaters today!

Top 8 Anti-Green Celebrities Get Outed In Chicago Tribune

Filed under: newspaper, not green — parrish @ 8:40 am

Ecorazzi loves the fact that being green is so damn trendy these days. All across the board we’re seeing celebs (as well as some of pretty awesome “common” folk) set a new standard for eco-living. But of course not EVERYONE is getting on the green train. In fact some famous faces are staying away from it completely. The Chicago Tribune recently posted their top 8 LEAST green celebrities and I bet you won’t believe who’s on the list!!

Counting down…

8. Bill Gates- While this guy does a lot for charity (which we love), it’s estimated that his global impact is 10,000 greater than the average person. WTF?

7. David and Victoria Beckham- We totally called this one! Last year, David flew more than 250,000 miles, is the owner of 15 cars and owns several homes. Add that all together, and he created about 18 times more carbon dioxide than the average person.

6. Madonna- Jeez! We called this one as well! Water bottles aside, in the past year she has created more than 1,000 tons of carbon dioxide!

5. John Travolta- John Travolta owns five planes, including a Boeing 707 complete with multiple dining rooms, and it’s estimated he has an annual carbon footprint that’s about 100 times more than the average person.

Hungry for more? To see the rest of the list scoot on over to chicagotribune.com. The remaining four might surprise you. I’ll give one clue — we DEFINITELY predicted number one!

The Green Quote: Ringo Starr Wants Peace And Love Day

Filed under: events, green and famous — parrish @ 7:45 am

“Let’s make my birthday, July the 7th at noon, Peace and Love Day. Everybody go, ‘Peace and love.’ In the office, on the bus, wherever. It’s still peace and love for me, I’m a product of the 60s and it was a very influential period in my life, and you know, my head was turned around a bit, my eyes were opened as it were. In fact, I even have it on my arm, ‘Peace and love’. I see nothing wrong with peace and love.”

- Ringo Starr telling Access Hollywood that he wants the world to celebrate his 69th birthday with him as the first official “Peace and Love Day.” To do you part, Ringo’s asking all fans to yell “Peace and love” at noon. Ringo, it’s officially in my blackberry!
