Jack Johnson’s Concert Rider Is Nothing But Green
Even requests a crew to check attendees tire pressure...

Sometimes musicians will ask for the damndest things while on tour. Last July, Barbara Streisand’s odd request for 120 bath-sized towels backstage at all times came to light. Then there’s Cher’s request for a private “wig room”. And let’s not forget that all of Willie Nelson’s concert engagements must be “smoke free”. Uh huh.
Thankfully, Jack Johnson’s concert rider is a bit more sane — and actually beneficial. According to the Star Tribune, the 33-year old musician requests fluorescent lightbulbs and water efficient showers backstage, separate bins for waste and recycling (with biodegradable bags), an eco-crew to check tire air pressure for attendees and that all leftover food be donated to local food banks.
Cool, right? The rest of Jack’s tour policies are also created with sustainabiliy in mind — and he takes pride in making each year greener than the previous. Last week, he performed an impromptu two-set concert out in the tour’s green village — where several non-profits were setup. Even though the real concert was three hours away, Jack took time to thank his fans and play some tunes anyways.
Jack, you rock.

Just saw Jack in Chicago today, at the Children’s Museum @ Navy Pier. Although we knew who he was, we didn’t say anything. It looks as though he was there showing off his “Parenting Skills”! He showed great intrest in teaching the kids about water, dams and boats. Very special time for him I am sure! Great to see someone of his status enjoying his children one on one with no NANNY IN SIGHT!
