While the rest of the world may be focused on their expected twins, Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt are making sure some attention is paid to other kids around the world desperately in need. Earlier today, their Jolie-Pitt Foundation announced a series of donations totaling $1 million to to four organizations working on behalf of children who have lost parents, homes and schools in Iraq.
“These educational support programs for children of conflict are the best way to help them heal,” said Jolie in a statement. Pitt added, “We hope to encourage others to give to these great organizations.”
According to reports, $500,000 will be split between three groups in Iraq. The funds will help pay for basic necessities — as well as school supplies, rehabilitation programs, and refugee aid. In the US, $500,000 will be given to the Armed Services YMCA Operation Hero Program — which will help kids affected by the loss or separation of a parent serving in the conflict.
