John Mayer Gives A New Friend An Incredible Day Backstage

There are a lot of people out there that dislike John Mayer — something that appears to have only increased with him dating Jennifer Aniston. I’m not sure if it’s his sarcastic dry humor that pisses them off or his music — both of which I think are refreshing — but somehow, there’s been more scorn and less praise for the guy out on the blogosphere. 

Anyways, I’m sending Mayer good vibes for bringing attention to a disease called MPS in his latest blog entry — and granting the wish of a kid suffering from the condition. Otherwise known as mucopolysaccharide, MPS is a debilitating and relentless disease that is caused by an enzyme deficiency. Mayer recently gave a kid named Isaac an incredible opportunity to come backstage, help with pre-concert duties, and forget about anything to do with MPS. Here’s a bit from his entry: 

“This is my new friend Isaac. He’s 4. We met before my show in Toronto. He’s one of the coolest kids I’ve ever met. Isaac has what’s called MPS. But that’s not what makes him special. You’d just have to spend 30 seconds with him to know what I’m talking about. Isaac’s a huge fan and loves the Where The Light Is DVD. His favorite parts are the backstage scenes of the band walking through the hallway. He loves them so much he asked me if the venue we were playing had a hallway. (it does.)”

Mayer then let Isaac lead the nightly “hands in” and walk everyone to the stage door. Needless to say, the kid was thrilled.

    My 27 yr.old daughter works for http://www.fountofmercy.com This is one of the charities that is recognized by ecorazzi. I appreciate that so much. She is now in Uganda and will be there until October 27th. Her org. links groups in the USA with orphanages and children in need. Can you possibly highlight their work! THANK YOU!

    I love John Mayer and I agree that he takes a lot of unnecessary abuse. This was a great thing to do, and a great way to raise awareness for MPS.

    I believe we all take a lot of unecessary abuse. Especially celebrities. It seems it’s human nature (or something) to either adore them or tear them apart. For gosh sakes, don’t we all have lives? As a teacher of severely handicapped children I say, “Thanks John for going not only deeply into your art form but also USING your celebrity to make a positive impact”.

    I believe we all take a lot of unecessary abuse. It’s so easy to find fault. Celebrities, for all their money, get it in spades. We can be quick to adore them or quick to knock them down and tear them apart. For gosh sakes they are just people.

    I agree. John Mayer rocks! Saw him recently for the 2nd time in concert. It will go down as one of my best concert experiences!

    I just want to give kudos to John Mayer. I don’t really listen to his musice, but heard about what he had done and read his blog, after Isaac’s mom posted about it on our MPS Forum. My son, Caleb, has MPSI. It is tragic what these children go through, and very few people know about it. Heck, many doctors don’t know about it.

    more I watch him the better I like him.
    I hadn’t really paid much attention to
    him until he started dating Jen and the
    more I see him the better I think he is.
