batpod

In 2005′s Batman Begins, we were treated to a fresh new take on the Batmobile called the Tumbler. It featured a 5.7-liter Chevy V8 engine, rear-mounted jet engine (fueled by six propane tanks), and 5,000lbs of heft. All said, it could go from 0-60 in 5 seconds. We also imagine that it’s a real pain in the ass on the mileage — and seriously, how often does Batman want to be pulling off to the side of the road to fill up? How embarrassing.

For the franchise’s sequel, The Dark Knight (premiering this weekend), the Tumbler still makes an appearance — but its the quick, nimble, and much more efficient Bat Pod that’s getting all the attention. Now granted, we hear Batman’s switch to light transportation has more to do with a plot device than gas prices in Gotham City — but for those long, high-speed chases, it’s good to know the bad guys will run out of gas before you do.
