I think China is a very appropriate place to debut an anti-fur ad since more and more fur factory farms are shutting down in the west and moving to China where costs are lower and there are no animal welfare regulations. Undercover investigations on Chinese fur farms have shown horrific cruelty, including inhumane transport and slaughter methods. Animals like raccoon dog, fox and mink are often killed by being slammed down on the ground. Often such methods would only stun the animal, who would gain consciousness while being skinned. Clothing companies shouldn't be using any fur at all, but especially not fur from China. If China wants to boost its image around the world, in addition to human rights issues, Tibet, free speech, etc, it needs to address it's treatment of animals.

PETA should have found a less hypocritical spokesperson, if one exists. Amanda Beard has no trouble wearing leather and sheepskin, yet claimed in their press release that "I’d much rather go naked than ever put a dead animal on my body."

I don't have a problem with the ad, but I don't think it is appropriate for the Olympics in China. I think it's disrespectful to their culture and values (since she is naked in the picture). Save it for if/when she wins a metal and hype it with that back here in the States.
