Someone forget to do a bit of a background check on Stella McCartney.

Apparently, a fashion house in the UK ran an ad that featured lingerie designed by McCartney covered in a fur coat. The 36-year-old designer was understandably upset and requested that the ad immediately be withdrawn.

Hockley, a fur boutique in Mayfair, UK issued an apology to Stella and took down the offending work. Apparently, they placed the blame on their stylist who borrowed the lingerie for the shoot, but failed to seek clarification or approval from McCartney.

A source close to the designer said: “If Stella knew it was going to be used by Hockley there is no way she would have lent it. It was loaned to a stylist in good faith, but when Stella saw the picture she was furious. Stella is disgusted.”

Stella was one of the first to object to using animal products in her line and is a staunch supporter of sustainable and cruelty-free practices in the fashion industry. So great is the recognition of these values that it’s rather surprising adding fur to the ad would go uncontested. If that stylist still has a job, we’re thinking she’ll be a bit more careful in the future.
