Paltrow Ticks Off Guests Partying To Support Her Horse Charity

August 12th 2008

Here’s the thing about Gwyneth Paltrow: She’s not the social type. I remember when I was living in New Zealand, some friends of mine had the opportunity to be extras for a movie she was filming down there. Before she even arrived on set, everyone was given explicit instructions not to directly look at her or interact in any way. Once the shoot was done, she was whisked immediately off location without saying “Hello”, “Thank you”, or acknowledging anyone besides her assistant.

So, the news today that guests attending Paltrow’s dinner fundraiser for her Amaryllis Farm Equine Rescue Organization were miffed that she did not mingle with the crowd is not much of a surprise. The event was held at Steven Klein’s home in the Hamptons — with each person paying $2,500 to attend. Apparently, Paltrow relegated herself to the main home — with security blocking all who attempted to say hello. From the Daily News,

“Gwyneth stayed in the house from the beginning,” sniffed one guest. “She was hanging inside the house with Steven and with Kelly Klein nearly the entire time. Nobody could go inside the house — they had security blocking the way. It was so rude.” Even Billy Joel’s wife, Katie, was turned back, says a source.”

True to form, Paltrow did appear briefly to talk about her organization and read a poem. She was then whisked away back into the house. Alas.

At least the horses benefited. Over $200,000 was raised as a result of the evening’s festivities.

  1. She was in New Zealand when she called in a radio station The Edge in their stalk a star contest for one of the crew members, he won $5000. I bet he didn’t think she was not sociable.

  2. I won’t pass judgment since I am not famous and have no idea what it is like to have people walking up to me in the street wanting to meet me an take my photo. But it does seem offputting and rude for her not to have mingled at her own fundraiser. If there’s ever a time to take down the barriers and thank people, its when you’re asking for their money.

  3. I agree that it is rude that she didn’t mingle at her own fundraiser… It’s great that she has a horse rescue organization, but she needs to be grateful to supporters and be social!

  4. I would imagine being raised by a famous mommy and director daddy didn’t help her spoiled tendencies. A shame really….

We have the same bday but there are other actresses out there with bdays also on sept 28th who *are* actually sweet like – Naomi Watts, janeane garofalo, and many more actually ;)

  5. I’ve been on more than 20 film sets in my life with A list actors and this is STANDARD behavior for extras versus stars. Paltrow did not do anything out of the ordinary on set.

Also, what were these people expecting? Pay money to meet her? She wasn’t there to mingle, she was there to make a speech and raise money. I don’t know why this take on her raising money for horses upsets me so much. I think we should be applauding her, at I least I am.

  6. I was there to witness Klein and Paltrow make this Gwyneth’s COLD PLAY in the Hamptons. $200,000 was raised from patrons who bought tickets to an event “hosted” by Madonna (but who did not show up) and co-chaired by Gwyneth Paltrow & Steven Klein, who hid from VIP Guests and local media. Gwyneth left the premises within approximately 45 minutes of her arrival and went to Mariah Carey’s house where she also kept to herself. Gwyneth may make nice pictures for VOGUE but that was the worst hosting job I have ever seen in the Hamptons or NYC for any charity event.

  8. My God, what a snob! You can’t look at her. Why? Because she’s a goddess, that’s why! Even the QUEEN of ENGLAND doesn’t have people say, “Don’t look at her!”

To have people come out and pay money to see her to give her charity money and all they got is some lame poem is absolutely pathetic.

I hope people in the Hamptons learn not to do anything for this pig. She’s a horrible person.

  9. It never fails to amaze me when people with millions in the bank ask other people for money. It’s like when celebs go on TV quiz shows and say they want the money they win donated to Elton John’s Aids Foundation. Ohhh you mean the Elton John with more money than France? Sure, we’ll write him a cheque straight away!

On another Gwyneth related note – will she be modelling horse skin this season, or just fox fur?
