Prince Charles Slams Genetically Modified Crop Production

Warns it may be the largest environmental disaster

August 13th 2008

Prince Charles has gone on a new tirade against genetically modified crops. Sitting down with a journalist from the UK Daily Telegraph, Charles let rip his feelings on the future of big business controlling crop production.

“What, all run by gigantic corporations? Is that really the answer? I think not. That would be the absolute destruction of everything and… the classic way of ensuring that there is no food in the future,” Charles told the paper. He added that “clever” genetic engineers had put the world on course for the “biggest disaster environmentally of all time. “The world should be working “with nature. We have gone working against nature for too long,” he said.

Obviously, the Prince is very passionate about the issue — he’s been an organic gardener for many decades, and even released a book on the topic last year. Supporters of GM crops threw back at the Prince calling him a “luddite” and to stop “spout(ing) off about something which he has clearly got wrong.”

Environmental groups, such as Friends of the Earth, supported the Prince and his statements saying that he “hit the nail on the head about the damaging false solution that GM crops present.”

  1. Anytime Prince Charles and his family are doing something constructive rather than racing around the countryside killing foxes, shooting endangered birds, and going on Africa hunting safaris, I’m happy.

  2. when I think of GM crops I get this whole Attack of the killer tomatoes theme in my head!

    You go get ‘em Chuck.

  3. Prince Charles is AMAZING! Its so nice to see someone born into wealth and power doing something nice.

  4. The problem is not the food itself, it’s that (a) Monsanto will own the seeds and their very genetic code outright (b) they have a history of exploiting their victims to the hilt. http://notnews.today.com/2008/08/17/prince-must-prove-anti-gm-claim/

  5. What a nice person, who cares about Genetic engineering in foods.
