Sheryl Crow recently posted a blog entry describing how for her birthday she received a product called “THE BLADE” — calling it a “real environmental solution”.

What’s the blade? Basically, it’s a pollution filter that you add to your tailpipe that reduces greenhouse emissions and air pollution. It also supposedly adds some additional digits to your car’s mileage. Crow writes ecstatically,

“It reduces up to 1/3 of the greenhouse gasses and more than 1/2 of the air pollutants your car puts out. If that alone doesn’t excite anyone who cares about our environment, it has also boosted my fuel consumption by about 3 miles per gallon. I think this is a great way for us to do something now to help clean up the air we breath. For ourselves and for our children.”

Now, she’s also got some association with the company going on, since if you mention her name at checkout, 20% of the retail price ($200) will go towards the Natural Resources Defense Council.

Does it actually work? According to the website and testing literature, yes. The web, however, has its own opinion on the product which might give you some pause. I’d encourage doing some objective research first before going one way or the other.

and what’s the cost of resources in making this device? Does it add up to more or less the than the pollution it promises to reduce?

Michael – I represent Sabertec and could put you in touch with the CEO if you’d like to chat with him about how Blade works. It’s proven by extensive testing from one of the world’s leading automotive emissions testing labs at ATDS, which is certified by the EPA. Let me know!
