Neicy Nash knows what it’s like to have violence in your life. The Reno 911 star’s brother was killed on his high school campus in 1993. Since then, Neicy has been the spokesperson for Mothers Against Violence in Schools (MAVIS), a nonprofit organization her mother started to raise awareness about violence in schools.

Saturday, Neicy took another stand against violence–this time, of the domestic variety, as the vivacious auctioneer at the Arts for ACT 2008 Fine Art Auction and Gala Fundraiser. ACT, or Abuse Counseling and Treatment Inc., is a nonprofit Fort Meyers organization that helps shelter and heal domestic violence victims in Florida. The event raised $250,000 for ACT.

If you’re mourning Sudan the rhino, go vegan

The world needs more vegans because more than dollars or pledges or sad-emoji riddled posts, our individual efforts can stop the demand for horns, for zoos, for animal flesh, and for the exploitation of any living being.

Criticize veganism, but don’t discredit it

Oppressive and harmful behaviour has no place in a movement rooted in anti-oppression.
