Coldplay has a secret that they’ve been less than eager to share.
The entire band likes to sew. A lot.
“Making clothes together in our studio makes us feel complete,” says lead singer Chris Martin. “We probably sound like a group of grannies in a knitting circle but it’s the truth and it gives us some control over our visual identity. When you are a big band and everyone is taking shots at you, the more things you can do together the better. And if you’re wearing uniforms made by your own hands it helps achieve that.”
We’re well aware that making one’s own clothing is a great way to help out the environment, but it’s funny to think of Coldplay sitting around in a hotel room rocking out the needlework. Still, when they’re on tour and staying in hotels, Chris Martin says they take great pleasure in finding time to do just that. “We see if they have a sewing kit in the amenities draw in case we feel inspired.”
Good on ya, gents. Coldplay are currently on a world tour to promote their ‘Viva la Vida’ album.
