As far as Britain’s Royals are concerned, Kate Middleton is looking more and more like a shoe shoo-in as Prince William’s fiancé. It’s only a matter of time — and while the clock is ticking, the Queen would like Middleton to stop waiting for the proposal and actually do something with her life. Like, you know, get involved with a charity or something.

See, Middleton’s been out of work for quite some time — and besides her heavy social life — doesn’t have much on agenda. This, of course, worries the Queen mum as she’s concerned the public misgivings on Kate’s current lifestyle will reflect poorly on the family. She feels that animal rights or a children’s charity would provide a “safe” role that — and get this — would not draw comparisons to the late Princess Diana. Interesting.

Now obviously, Middleton would have a bit to clarify if she joined up with a group like PETA. Last year, the organization slammed her for participating in “blood sports” during an outing with Prince Charles to hunt deer. Still, PETA has also been know to give second chances, and I’m sure they would warmly embrace a change of heart from someone with as high a profile as Middleton.

As one article noted, animal charities may not be as “safe” as the Queen suggests — especially considering the rather risque photo shoots we’ve seen in the past. Perhaps the most humorous suggestion would be for Kate to join the UK Hamster Rescue organization. They’re so poor that they cannot even afford to be a registered charity — something a potential royal could most certainly help with.

Either way, the Queen Mother will be watching…

If she wants her son’s girlfriend to get involved with animal rights, perhaps she should jettison the furs she wears and discourge her children and grandchildren from taking part in activities that cause harm to animals, such as hunting. I also don’t see the queen deciding to go vegan in her ninth decade.

Kate is gorgeous (and hot), she could easily become a spokes-model for an (animal friendly, cruelty free) make up line.

I can very well see it. This would position her as philantrophic and animal friendly. (not too mention, she can actually do some good with her name)

Kate should choose her own course. If she wants to contribute to the cause of suffering animals she should follow her heart that way. Perhaps she would develop more compassion as a result of her involvement, but I’d rather not see her working for some cause she doesn’t care about. Whatever philanthropy she gets into, I only hope she puts her whole heart into it.

As an aside, I am a bit surprised by the Queen’s emphasis on avoiding comparisons to Diana, if only because it’s so in character with the person we came to know in the film “The Queen.” I suppose it makes sense from Her Majesty’s perspective, but it is not a popular attitude. Diana was a genuine woman with a very open heart, whose personal character stood in stark contrast to the Royals. The last thing Her Majesty wants is another one of those. Still, if Kate doesn’t show some kind of character the people are unlikely to warm to her.
