A Canadian reality show called Make It Right: New Orleans has just placed the finishing touches on a brand-new, eco-friendly home for a 68-year old grandmother living in the Lower 9th Ward. As you can tell from the name, the production company hooked up with Brad Pitt’s foundation, Make It Right NOLA, to make the home come together.
The home has been described as “storm-safe” — and only a few days after the keys are handed over will it face it’s first major, potentially catastrophic test with Hurricane Gustav. The article states that the “new four-bedroom home was built to withstand New Orleans’ next 100-year hurricane.” NO Mayor Ray Ragin dramatically proclaimed Gustav today the “storm of the century.”
We really hope it makes it.
Indeed, we imagine that Pitt’s display of “Pink Homes” to represent future, green buildings is being taken down. I have no idea how they would expect them to survive otherwise. Hopefully, we will not see any levees being breached, once more setting back the lives of all those who live in New Orleans. Our best goes out to them.
Look for this reality show documenting the building of the green home to appear as a six-part series this coming fall on HGTV.
